Still Standing.
Stephen had been given a platform. Not to save himself, but to speak the truth one final time. He told the council what no one else would: you have resisted the Holy Spirit, just as your fathers did.
They didn't want to hear it. When Stephen declared he could see Jesus standing at the right hand of God, it was over. They dragged him out and stoned him.
And Stephen, as the stones fell, prayed for the very people killing him.
Faithful service doesn't promise safety. It promises transformation. Into the image of the One who also prayed for his executioners from a cross.
This Sunday marks the beginning of something significant. Starting September 27, exactly 70 days before our 70th Anniversary celebration on December 6, we are calling our church to 70 days of prayer.
Our goal is to honor God's faithfulness over 70 years. We celebrate those who have helped carry this mission and build momentum for what is ahead. More than looking back, we want this season to remind every generation that God is still writing the story at The Ave.
This fall is full. Trunk or Treat is coming. Our 70th Anniversary is right around the corner. A lot of people are serving hard to make it all happen.
When life gets this full, our instinct is to move faster. But in Acts 4, when the early church was under pressure, they didn't call a strategy meeting. They gathered and raised their voices together in prayer.
That's what we want to do on October 11. One night. One voice. Every generation. Seeking God together before we step into this season.
